As a flagship social contribution initiative leveraging POSCO INTERNATIONAL’s expertise in power generation, this solar panel support program has been ongoing since 2013 and is a collaborative effort involving POSCO INTERNATIONAL headquarters, Gwangyang Terminal Division, the City of Gwangyang, and Habitat for Humanity Korea.

The facilities visited this time include ‘Gwangyang Senior Welfare Center,’ the city’s first residential welfare center for the elderly, and ‘Gwangyang Heart-Sharing Shelter,’ a facility for temporary protection of children who have suffered abuse. Notably, the shelter, established in June 2019 as Gwangyang’s first children’s shelter, was built through donations from the POSCO 1% Foundation, making this solar installation especially meaningful.

Hwang Chan-Woo, Director of Gwangyang Senior Welfare Center, expressed his gratitude during the event, “As the completion of these facilities comes at a time when electricity consumption is rising due to the cold weather, it will greatly help reduce operational costs. We deeply appreciate POSCO INTERNATIONAL’s unwavering support for the sustainable development of the local community.”

Now in its 12th year, the solar panel support program has resulted in the installation of a total of 197 kW of solar panels across 19 social welfare facilities in Gwangyang. POSCO INTERNATIONAL remains committed to improving the quality of life for local residents and promoting sustainable development through a variety of initiatives.
