On November 19, a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed at the Branch Office of Education in Balikpapan to address regional disparities in educational resources. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from PT.ARC, Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, and Good Neighbors Indonesia. Under the MOU, the initiative will provide ▲the construction of two e-classrooms, ▲ICT-based teacher training to strengthen teaching capacities, and ▲e-learning content along with necessary educational equipment to local high schools in the Balikpapan area.

Established in 2023, PT.ARC is an Indonesian palm oil refinery of POSCO INTERNATIONAL. In collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, POSCO INTERNATIONAL and PT.ARC have selected SMA9 and SMK6, high schools located near PT.ARC’s facilities, as beneficiaries of their support to promote mutual growth with the local community. The initiative is funded by a donation of KRW 200 million from POSCO INTERNATIONAL to Good Neighbors via the Community Chest of Korea.

At the signing ceremony, PT.ARC’s Vice President Kim Sang-Real remarked, “Education is a genuine investment in the future. We sincerely hope this initiative will contribute to the advancement of education in Balikpapan.”

Matilda, Director of Good Neighbors Indonesia, expressed gratitude by stating, “This project will ensure that underprivileged youth in Balikpapan gain access to quality education in a better digital learning environment, and we will make every effort to support its success.”

The construction of e-classrooms and the provision of equipment, as part of the project to improve digital education accessibility for future generations, is expected to be completed in the first half of next year.
